# Omnia vs Mem0

> Omnia’s memory lets newer facts win, redacts personal data before it’s stored, carries consent revocation into what’s already remembered, and runs inside your cluster. Mem0 is a memory layer you add beside the agent.

## Mem0 adds memory to an agent. Omnia’s comes with consent and redaction.

Omnia’s memory is part of the platform the agent runs on, so the privacy rules that apply to sessions apply to memory too. Mem0 is a separate layer beside the agent.

## When it matters: A customer reads out a card number, then later withdraws consent for you to remember them.

**On Omnia:** The card number was redacted on the way in. When they withdraw consent, it covers the memories already written about them, and the data subject request that carries it out is recorded. (Omnia docs: https://omnia.altairalabs.ai/how-to/privacy/configure-privacy-policies/)

**On Mem0:** Superseded and merged memories are retained, never erased. Deletion by ID or filter is documented; consent and PII redaction before storage aren’t. (source: https://docs.mem0.ai/platform/features/dream)

## Redacted before it’s remembered

The redactor runs again before anything is committed to long-term memory, with patterns for card numbers, phone numbers and emails, plus any you add. *(enterprise)* (Omnia docs: https://omnia.altairalabs.ai/how-to/privacy/configure-privacy-policies/)

Mem0: PII redaction before storage isn’t documented. (source: https://docs.mem0.ai/core-concepts/memory-operations/delete)

## Consent reaches what’s stored

Revocation applies to memories already written. A privacy hub records each privacy-affecting action across the workspace. *(enterprise)* (Omnia docs: https://omnia.altairalabs.ai/how-to/privacy/manage-user-consent/)

Mem0: Consent isn’t documented; deleting a user is queued for background execution. (source: https://docs.mem0.ai/api-reference/entities/delete-user)

## Part of the agent runtime

Memory runs in your cluster on Postgres and pgvector, inside the platform that also runs, tests and releases the agent. (Omnia docs: https://omnia.altairalabs.ai/explanation/agents/memory/)

Mem0: A memory layer you add to whichever runtime you use. (source: https://github.com/mem0ai/mem0)

## Questions

**Are the benchmark numbers comparable?**

Mem0 states its scores reflect its managed platform, with optimisations not available in the open-source SDK. Vendor-reported memory benchmarks aren’t directly comparable with each other.
